Background to Coaching...

The concepts of personal development and self improvement have their roots in psycho-therapy and first came to public notice in the 1930's with the initial momentum in the USA. From then until the 1980's there were few break-through developments. Most approaches retained an element of the “therapist and patient” relationship where the root of a trauma or issue was explored to provide an indication of the 'cure'.

This left many individuals with a general feeling that ‘there must be something more to life'. Life coaching evolved to accommodate this need and the new relationship became a partnership between coach and client; with each party being equally and totally committed to the client’s desired and stated outcomes. This dynamic approach extended into sports coaching with dramatic results and has since grown rapidly in popularity within the professional and corporate environment too, due to the significant benefits gained. Unlike therapy or counselling, coaching starts from where you are now and helps you get to where you want to be.

"Circumstances and situations do colour life but you have been given the mind to choose what the colour shall be"
(John Homer Miller, American Writer)
